Red Torus Forge LLC is the workshop of Austin, TX based artist-blacksmith Carter Cox. Set in the rural Hill Country west of the city, RTF is a fully equipped blacksmithing and metal fabrication shop, featuring a 160 lb. pneumatic power hammer.

Carter’s work is a hybrid of traditional craft and contemporary design. Informed by a broad knowledge of art, and drawing upon a wide repertoire of manual skills, Carter is first and foremost a maker. The plastic qualities of steel have always held a deep allure. Trained in sculpture, Carter earned an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002. He later furthered his skills as a fabricator for Carlson & Co., a major producer of technically challenging artworks. Arriving in Austin in 2005, Carter found a thriving community of metal artists. This proved providential, as he had for many years harbored a desire to further explore the craft of blacksmithing. At Austin Community College, Carter received excellent training in power hammer forging, as well as functional and sculptural forging. Building on the momentum of these experiences, Carter went on to establish Red Torus Forge in 2008.
